Principle Of Operations:The pyrometer measures radiation received on a horizontal surface from both the sun and the sky. When exposed to radiation, the temperature of the blackened horizontal surface rises. Heat is lost from the blackened surface by conduction, convection and radiation. The equilibrium temperature reached is a measure of the radiation. This temperature is measured by a thermopile.
Sensors:A thin metallic film blackened with a special paint (which absorbs energy completely in the range of 0.3 to 3 μm) is the sensor. A 72 element copper Constantin thermopile is in thermal contact with this thin metal film. Alternate junctions of this thermopile are in thermal contact with the massive body of the instrument at ambient temperature which serves as the cold junction. This way a millivolt output proportional to the radiation received (about 4 mV/kW/m²) develops across the thermopile. the instrument has a time constant less than 22 seconds.

The Solar Radiation Sensor, or solar pyrometer, measures global radiation, the sum at the point of measurement of both the direct and diffuse components of solar radiance, the sensor's transducer, which converts incident radiation to electrical current, is a silicon photo diode with wide spectral response. From the sensor's output voltage, the console calculates and displays solar radiance. It also integrates the radiance values and displays total incident energy over a set period of time.
The outer shell shields the sensor body from thermal radiation and provides an airflow path for convection cooling of the body, minimizing heating of the sensor interior. It includes a cutoff ring for cosine response, a level indicator, and fins to aid in aligning the sensor with the sun's rays. The space between the shield and the body also provides a runoff path for water, greatly reducing the possibility of rain- or irrigation-water entrapment. The diffuser is welded to the body for a weather-tight seal; it provides an excellent cosine response. The transducer is an hermetically-sealed silicon photo diode; the included amplifier converts the transducer current into 0 to +2.5 VDC. Spring-loaded mounting screws, in conjunction with the level indicator, enable rapid and accurate leveling of the sensor. Principle Of Operation:There is a silicon solar photocell placed on top of the sensor mount, so that it is having a large viewing angle almost 180 degrees. The f sun’s presence is computed by the following principle, A shadow-band is rotated around the sensor to obtain the total incoming radiation, and diffused radiation (when the sensor is covered by the shadow band) by comparing the diffused and total radiation, we can assert the presence of sun. The shadow-band width is sufficient to cover the sun so that, a shadow falls on the sensor at any angle of sun. To minimize sensor position shift during seasonal sun’s change we have provided sufficiently large shadow-band.
The output of the sensor is amplified and the variation between the diffused and total is compared using a precision analog comparator and driven through a mono stable multi-vibrator. There is a LED indication on the top, which indicates the presence of sun; this will help during installation and adjusting the threshold levels.For Threshold adjustments a potentiometer is provided this potentiometer can be accessed by removing the water tight rubber bushes on the sensor body. Principle of Operation: Wind Direction Sensor is a counter balanced, low threshold wind vane. A Linear, wire wound endless potentiometer is coupled to the vane by an SS shaft. As the vane turns, it rotates a stainless steel shaft which is coupled to the potentiometer. This potentiometer has excellent linearity, very low starting torque.
